About
Paul Schmidt
My first darkroom was my father’s. He made his own black-and-white prints at home, and as a child I sat next to him under the red light and watched a blank sheet of paper turn into a picture. I have loved photography ever since.
I bought my first digital camera in 2003 and have worked as a photographer since 2016. Years of shooting landscapes in Curaçao, photography-club projects and long-exposure work taught me to read light and to make a place look its best. In 2021 I added a drone. Then I spent 22 months in Africa, photographing lodges, small hotels and tour guides, and wildlife for myself.
Since 2025 I have lived on my sailboat, travelling the Caribbean and Central America, and I am currently in Panama. I take on single shoots for hotels, lodges, hosts and property owners, and portraits for solo travellers and couples, wherever the route leads.
